There are several reasons why we must let our children see us eating healthy. We know that many children are prone to having health problems because of what they put in their bodies. Many parents are holding down two and three jobs, attending college at night. Sometimes the parents are so exhausted by the time that they get home that preparing a healthy meal is the last thing on their minds. Unfortunately children practice what they see. If the parents are not eating healthy, then most children will pick up the same bad

habit and not eat a well balanced meal. You can make fruits and vegetables a normal and exciting diet by doing a few tricks with the food. You can make fruit salads, even try cutting the fruits up in shapes that are whimsical. You can use vegetables that kids normally don’t like as raw puppets and give them characters like Carl the comic carrot, and carve faces on them. You can also explain to your children that fruits and vegetables as well as some grains and meats will help them make great decisions. Instead of taking your kids to fast food restaurants explain to your kids that some fast foods will not make them smart or strong. If you give the food identity, the children will want to eat foods that enhance their intellect.

Presentation is key. Colored veggies and fruits are alway appealing to a kid. Prepare foods early before you leave your home to avoid having to stay up late preparing food when you finally get home. If you have a sitter teach them the names of the characters you made up for each type of vegetable. This normally works for children ages 3 -5. At age 5 you may want to teach kids how to make certain meals that you make. This gives them a sense of independence and also involves them in learning about responsibility. We must spend more time with children and the dinner table is a great place to meet to discuss the day’s activities and challenges. Eating healthy is the best way to Save Our Seeds.
